Todd Jacobsen is a Los Angeles-based animation artist with experience in features, television, short films and commercials. A sampling of the projects he has contributed to include "The Princess and the Frog," "The Simpsons," "Cats Don't Dance," "The Looney Tunes Show," "The Prince of Egypt," "Curious George," "The Ren & Stimpy Show," and "Family Guy." His most recent work was contributing animation and graphics for writer/comedian Johanna Stein and director Suzanne Luna's live-action short "Episode 1: Travel Tips for Tots," which can be seen atwww.mothereffed.com.
Born in California, Jacobsen was raised in Idaho where he showed an early interest in both art and music. Moving back to California as a teenager, he continued pursuing his creative passions but decided upon graduating from high school that a career as an accountant would be a more "realistic" endeavor. His studies eventually took him to the University of Southern California, where he carried a full course load while financially supporting himself as a bookkeeper in downtown Los Angeles' financial district. His activities during this period included a three-year stint as a percussionist with The USC Trojan Marching Band.
A year short of graduating with a degree in accounting, Todd decided to return to his childhood love of cartooning and taught himself how to animate while taking courses in graphic design at California State University at Northridge.
Jacobsen's first positions in the animation industry were as Production Coordinator on the first twenty-two episodes of "The Simpsons" television series, and as Animation Department Manager on the film "FernGully: The Last Rainforest." Immediately after "FernGully" he was employed as a Key Assistant Animator on Paramount's "Bebe's Kids," bypassing most traditionally held animator trainee positions. His last production position before concentrating on obtaining full-time artist positions was as an Assistant Director/Timing Assistant on the second season of "The Ren & Stimpy Show."
From 1993 to 1999 Todd had been employed primarily as a Key Assistant Animator on feature films for Turner Feature Animation and DreamWorks Animation. Since 2000, he has expanded his skillset by branching out into rough animation on features for Disney, Warner Bros., Universal, Twentieth Century Fox and on short films and commercials for independent animation and live-action studios. He has also been employed as a storyboard artist for television, and constantly updates his knowledge of the many digital programs commonly used in the production of animation.
Jacobsen currently resides in Valencia, California.
